Scotland: the Fairlie family’s “memory wars” campaign

Scottish politician Jim Fairlie and his family endured years of torment after baseless accusations of sexual abuse. Now, he has put his story into print and his harrowing indictment of “a system gone wrong” will make for uncomfortable reading in local health service, social work and legal circles:

“Rather than apologise, individuals and the authorities were prepared to try to cover up their mistakes and brand me a paedophile...

“It would have haunted me forever and there’s no way I could have lived with that. I have been asked many times if I ever felt suicidal. No, but I have often been homicidal!”
